The White Temple

Wat Rong Khun, better known as the White Temple, has been privately funded by a crazy, brilliant, and rich artist.  The artist had a vision, and has been working on creating this vision for the past 10 years with still has at least one more year to go.

Though we knew the temple was still under construction we simply had to visit it before leaving Thailand.  I had been looking forward to seeing this oddity for weeks. Unfortunately, on the day we visited the temple the part they were constructing was the steps leading up to the front of the temple so weren’t able to get great shots from the front. Also, we weren’t permitted to get close to the bridge leading up to the temple. The area under the bridge was filled with hundreds of hands trying to reach out from below.  Gene, they reminded us of your hand sculpture. Still, what we did see was so very detailed and beautiful.

The artist designed the temple as an imitation of Heaven on Earth.  The white color represents Buddha’s purity, and the white glass represent Buddha’s wisdom shining over the universe.  Stunning.
